February Supplement to the Atwood-Coffee Catalogue.

Notes by Harold V. Ford.

Supplement to Car Wash Tokens of North America.

ROBERT O. BOWEN and KENNETH C. KERR

We have lost two friends this month, lane whom we've known for many years, and one who was with us for only a few months.

Robert Bowen of Mason City, Iowa, AVA #2994, joined just last February 2000. He was already retired at the time, and I regret I did not know him, which is my loss. He was 71 at the time of his death.

Kenneth Kerr, AVA #1798 of Kansas City, Kansas, was an old and dear friend. A regular attendee of our conventions, he was fun to sit next to at banquets and listen to the reminiscences of an old Union Pacific RR man. An inveterate joiner, he belonged to more societies than we have room to list. He died February 5, at age 87, and is survived by his wife Maxine, a daughter and three sons, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. And hundreds of friends in the A.V.A. How we shall miss him!

March 7. Together with this issue we are sending you the Index to articles in Volume 54, on the back of which is a listing of all tokens reported in supplements during year 2000. This should be put at the end of your December 2000 Fare Box.

At the printer's now is the 5-year catalogue supplement, a booklet of nearly 90 pages that will bring your 5th edition of the Atwood-Coffee Catalogue up to date as of the December 2000 Fare Box. We found an inexpensive printer in Vermont, and they should be ready before the next Fare Box. Price will be very reasonable, and soon as they arrive I'll have an announcement, in the next issue.

Now is the time to submit lists of tokens for the big auction to be held in conjunction with the A.V.A. Convention, to be held in August 2001, in Kansas City. Tokens must catalogue at least $1.50. Send a list of tokens you'd like to submit (no tokens yet) and Keith will tell you which ones are OK (to avoid duplication). You may use the mails, or e-mail Keith at amikaymh@aol.com. Auction chairman is AVA Curator Keith Haney (4614 Stonegate Way - Corpus Christi, TX 78411-4829).

Al Zaika reports that the Philadelphia token at the bottom of page 481 of Vol. 11 of the catalogue, brought $110.00 in his recent auction. We know nothing about the token, but it's a fascinating one, octagonal aluminum 8¢ Philadelphia Rapid Transit, picturing Independence Hall. Wish I knew more about it.

Joel Reznick asked me to report that his computer auction program "crashed," and this explains why he needs a little more time to take care of the Detzel collection auction. Be patient. Successful bidders will soon be notified.

NOTES BY HAROLD V. FORD

The Beach Boy Trolley operation of Perdido Key, FL, is a division of the Boyertown Trolley Corp. of nearby Pensacola. It operates Friday evenings and all day weekends along Highway 292. Tokens are available from the trolley driver and local merchants. Flora-Bama is a local night club. Louis Crawford has obtained a supply of these tokens for the New Issues Service, prior to the start-up date.

Robert L. Williams found the Louisville, IL. listing at a coin show. It is probably an early 20th Century hack token.

John Byars was the high bidder on the Electra, TX, listing in a recent exonumia auction. It probably dates from the first half of the 1900's. It is to be hoped that someone will research some background information on this bridge. There could be other denominations.
