PRESENTATION
PIECES
Southeast Indiana Transit serves Lawrenceburg, Aurora, and Greendale, but the office is situated in the little town of Dillsboro, which is about 7 miles west of Aurora. This issue is used by seniors 50¢, and adults $1.00 alike. The bus driver recognizes his patrons. Larry Kemper reports some of the IN 540 B tokens have dabs of red paint on each side. He has a small quantity available for 50¢ each +SASE. These were initially used to denote senior use by the Authority and do not warrant a separate listing. IN 540 B is recently obsolete and is replaced by IN 540C. Larry obtained both listings for our N.I.S. Note the small cc mintmark on 540B. This is the new style mintmark for Osborne Coinage.
The token we decided to list as MA 1000 D was mentioned on page 129 of the December 1999 Fare Box, and offered by our Editor to interested collectors. Bill Garrison obtained some extras, and wrecked one to determine the base metal so that we could list it.
We listed five plastic Morr Trans tokens in July 2000. Joe Radomski reported that his MN 460 A had black lettering. Bill Garrison researched, and reports that when the original order of tokens was received by the local authority all five tokens had black printing. This was fine except the contrast on the blue token was poor. The tokens were used briefly while blue tokens with white printing (460 A) were ordered. When received, most specimens of 460 F were destroyed. Hence the value.
The Utica, NY, senior fare is 75¢. Tokens are sold at 10 for $5.00. The N.I.S. has a supply for its members.
Charlotte, NC, for the third straight year, has issued a token good for parking and trolley and bus fare. The regular issue was struck by Roger Williams Mint. The Presentation Piece silver listing was offered to collectors by Fred Sader in this past October Fare Box was struck by Silvertowne Mint. The N.I.S. will handle the NC 160 H for its members.
Choanoke Public Transportation Authority, situated in northeastern North Carolina, provides service to Halifax, Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton counties. We know for sure the listed woodnik is currently in use in Scotland Neck, and may be used elsewhere. Tokens are sold by local businesses and agencies. Bill Boncek obtained a supply for our New Issues Service.
I think Louis Crawford located the Seymour, TX, token on the internet. We lack any background information.
Several collectors last year sent rubbings of the token we now list as VA 895F. Tokens are given out by hotels to guests so they can ride the trolley on the strip. Bob Schneider, who obtained a supply for our N.I.S., reports that there have been four tokens issued in the past ten years. We assume the other three are VA 895 B C and D.
Ed Bawden
reported, and Bill Garrison obtained a supply of, the Waterloo, WI, carousel
token for N.I.S. members. We lack any background information.
THE 2001 EDITION OF CANADIAN ARCADE & MACHINE TOKENS HANDBOOK
The text lists 2,632 Canadian arcade, machine, transit, parking, bridge, amusement and related tokens and their varieties. A good listing of Chuck E. Cheese tokens is included. There is a short listing of tokens that are used in Canada, but which are from United States municipalities, as well as a section on numbered tokens. A short line before each entry allows the collector to add a check mark or number for inventory purposes.
Photographs of most tokens are included in the Handbook. For each token there is a short description of both sides and data on the token's denomination, date (if needed), composition, weight, diameter, edge type and a valuation. Mintage and mint are given where known. Tokens are listed under the municipality in which they were issued. Municipalities are listed alphabetically under the province or territory in which they are situated.
A 12-page index at the front of the Handbook and Booklet lists the tokens alphabetically by issuer, with the issuer's municipality and province or territory in which it is situated on the same line. This listing is primarily to help the collector locate the origin of the token.
